The Future of Energy & Energy Storage

Indiana has a long history at the intersection of the advanced energy storage sector and mobility, particularly in electric and hybrid vehicle technology development. Our state supports the future of energy and energy storage through collaboration with innovative partners around the world.

  • Stellantis, one of the world’s leading automakers, is investing $229 million in its Kokomo operations to support their goal of achieving 40% low-emission vehicle sales in the U.S. by 2030. They are also partnering with Samsung SDI to invest more than $2.5B in an electric-vehicle battery manufacturing plant.
  • General Motors will expand its 2.7 million square foot Marion Metal Center campus, adding an additional 6,000 square feet to support their plan to build one million EVs by 2025.
  • Indiana’s partnership with Avalanche Andretti Formula E amplifies the state’s leadership at the intersection of battery technology, automotive manufacturing and racing.
  • Indiana is home to The Battery Innovation Center, an industry-leading nonprofit focused on the rapid development, testing and validation, training, and commercialization of safe, reliable, high performance, and lighter-weight energy storage systems for commercial and defense customers.

Indiana is ranked as one of the top 10 states in the U.S. for degree universities relevant to EV/battery manufacturing. As a result, Indiana boasts one of the most highly trained, work-ready labor forces in the country—a talent pipeline at your company’s disposal.

  • Purdue University is ranked the No. 1 school in the U.S. for graduates with degrees relevant to EV/battery manufacturing.
